For the first time since Klay Thompson went down in the 2019 NBA Finals, things are starting to look positive for the Golden State Warriors.

While everyone knew Stephen Curry could single-handedly dominant, it was clear this past season it wouldn’t quite be enough to get them into title contention. Let’s not forget that rough 15-win Covid-19-stricken season either.

The Golden State Warriors seemingly feel confident that at full strength this roster can compete with some of the best in the Western Conference.

Thompson will help change all that, and management agrees.

While he isn’t set to return until around Christmas time, Thompson is expected to return at full strength, and in doing so, he should make the Warriors one of the most dangerous teams in the West.

Earlier this offseason, general manager Bob Myers gave his opinion of the team, and he noted how vastly important Thompson will be. Head coach Steve Kerr reiterated that contagious positivity.

"“But I’m very excited about the potential. It feels to me that we’re going to be back in a situation where we can compete on a nightly basis. Just knowing that is exciting, but we’ve got a lot of work ahead to prove this,” Kerr said via NBC Sports’ Monte Poole."

When this team is at full strength, Kerr is absolutely correct. Until then, it may be tough to take on teams like Utah and Los Angeles. That said, the Warriors should be able to hold their own until Thompson does return.

With Curry still in his prime, the Warriors should be getting enough from him to survive. Other players like center James Wiseman and backup guard Jordan Poole are expected to step up and show their worth.

The talent is there, and despite Thompson’s injury, the Warriors finished last season 39-33, losing in the play-in tournament. They’re returning many of the same players with a couple of key additions in Otto Porter Jr. and Andre Iguodala.

While they’re learning on a rather injury-prone core, the Warriors should be just fine in terms of making the playoffs. Then, with the duo of Curry and Thompson hopefully healthy, they should be able to make a solid run in a difficult West.
