Golden State Warriors target to avoid: Pascal Siakam

The Toronto Raptors are preparing for life without Siakam.

That’s at least the only thing that makes sense of their drafting of small forward Scottie Barnes over Gonzaga point guard Jalen Suggs, who was thought to be the clear fourth-best player in the draft.

The cost for a player like Siakam is relatively unknown, but the Raptors would likely be craving a player to develop alongside OG Anunoby, Barnes, and Fred VanVleet. Jordan Poole and James Wiseman may both be solid players to toss in a trade.

For contractual purposes, Andrew Wiggins would also be needed, but it’s unlikely the Warriors hit that price. That said, Siakam missed the All-Star game last season as Covid-19 hampered the only Canadian-based team’s season by not allowing them in their home stadium.

Despite that, Siakam’s weakness as a shooter would make him an unlikely target. He shoots 32.5 percent from deep. He averages over 20 points per game which does put him in elite company, but substituting him out for Wiggins and a couple of players wouldn’t be a good deal for Golden State.

Siakam won’t be worth whatever the cost is, especially as Wiggins would be a casualty of this trade.
