Golden State Warriors don’t want to trade Jonathan Kuminga

If there is one prospect the Golden State Warriors will avoid including in any hypothetical trades before the season begins, it is Jonathan Kuminga. The No. 7 overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft is everything the Dubs are hoping for when it comes to keeping this squad competitive after Stephen Curry.

Bob Myers has been pretty open about his desire to continue building a dynasty for the next decade. This is a large reason as to why the Dubs have selected three times in the NBA Draft Lottery despite a never-ending list of trade targets becoming available to them.

Kuminga is the guy they are hoping will be the franchise cornerstone, with time. He is regarded as one of the highest-risk, highest-reward prospects of his class and this is for good reason. Kuminga can be a superstar if he puts all of his unpolished skills together.

A lanky, agile and powerful 6’7″ forward with ball-handling chops and a tad-bit of shooting is what Kuminga is at the moment. He isn’t elite at anything but he is average (or above average) at just about everything, including defense.

This immense all-around dominance is why the Warriors will not be interested in giving up Kuminga this early. They hardly thought he would fall to them in the first place. Now, they are committed to seeing through the first year of his development.
