Golden State Warriors should have retained Kent Bazemore

Kent Bazemore isn’t the only member of the Golden State Warriors that left in free agency this summer. Kelly Oubre Jr. also elected to move on by joining the Charlotte Hornets. Yet, the loss of Bazemore will likely sting more this season.

This isn’t because Bazemore is a more talented player. Oubre was a solid two-way presence who helped keep the Dubs competitive all last year. However, Oubre quickly raised his price tag above the Warriors allowance. Bazemore, on the other hand, was available for the low, signing a veteran minimum contract with the Los Angeles Lakers.

Bazemore was a really great asset for the Dubs in his ninth NBA season. He averaged 7.4 points as a 40.8 percent 3-point shooter. He offered consistent floor spacing and production as one of the only experienced members of the rotation.

Retaining Bazemore would have allowed the Dubs to keep a sense of continuity heading into the upcoming season. With so many new faces like Moses Moody, Jonathan Kuminga and others who will be learning the Dubssystem, signing Bazemore was a missed opportunity to have another familiar player on the roster.
