Patty Mills was perfect for the Golden State Warriors

There was not a better target than Patty Mills out there for the Golden State Warriors this summer. From the price tag to his veteran experience and on-court value — Mills was the guy to get for Golden State.

Sadly, Mills was taken pretty quickly by the Brooklyn Nets. Another team looking to win a title — Brooklyn snagged Mills two days into free agency, padding their rotation with another championship-caliber player.

Mills has long been a contributor for the San Antonio Spurs, averaging a scorching hot 10.2 points on 56.5 percent 3-point shooting in the 2014 NBA Finals to help secure a title. Since then, he’s been one of the most consistent backup guards in the entire league. Mills has even made an impact internationally, posting 23.3 points per game in the Tokyo Olympics while pushing Australia to the Bronze Medal.

The Warriors are once again going to feel the pain of not having a true playmaker to replace Stephen Curry in the lineup this season. Mills would have filled this role to perfection. Unfortunately, the Dubs missed out on signing him.

As a result, the Warriors will place an extra focus on developing Jordan Poole into a capable playmaker. Poole already took a solid step forward as a sophomore and will likely take on more responsibilities in his third year. Because of this, the Dubs should still be optimistic about their talented depth chart next year, even if they didn’t acquire Mills.
