The Golden State Warriors have one positional need left, and it’s behind two-time MVP Stephen Curry. It grew even greater when 2020 second-round pick Nico Mannion opted to head overseas, leaving the Warriors without a backup option.

Even with Mannion, it was always likely the Dubs were going to fill the void as the guard who would’ve been entering his second season in the league hadn’t shown much up to this point in his career.

While the Golden State Warriors have a contending roster, solving the last piece of the puzzle prior to the season starting will be a huge help for them.

That said, there are few options left for the Warriors to entertain, but one is signing veteran guard Jeff Teague. Teague most recently spent time with the Milwaukee Bucks, claiming his first NBA Championship.

He’s still an unrestricted free agent. He’s spent time with four different teams over the last two seasons. Coincidently, he managed to time his landing with the champs just right, coming over from Boston in the middle of this past season.

Teague has had a quality career, and he’d serve as a terrific backup, able to make plays and captain the offense. A former All-Star-caliber guard, Teague, at his best, averaged 16 points and 7 assists per game.

He has size, leadership, and experience. The Warriors could use all of that on their second unit, and as we’ve noted before, it’s key for Golden State to find that second scoring threat. It’s unlikely that Teague solves that problem.

But, he helps keep the second unit afloat while Curry is on the sidelines. Those five or six minutes during each half are crucial for the Warriors to be able to sustain a competitive nature. Adding Teague helps solve that.

He’s an NBA Champion and an All-Star. He averaged over ten points per game for nine years. He’s good enough to make a difference on a championship team. However, he’s not going to be the entire answer.

He’s a part of the puzzle but not the entire finishing touch. However, given that the team he’s been on has been better than their opponent with him on the court for eight of his 12 years, Teague should be helpful.

The Warriors need Teague, and Teague should want to play for a contender. The combination makes sense.
