Golden State Warriors offseason move: Extending Stephen Curry

Stephen Curry is now locked up for five more seasons. Let me rephrase that — two-time MVP and 2021 scoring champion Stephen Curry is now locked up for five more seasons.

There’s arguably nothing more important than securing your star past his current contract. The Warriors did just that this offseason, making Curry the first player in NBA history to sign two $200 million deals.

It gives the Warriors time as a franchise to contemplate their next move as well, not necessarily having to rush into dealing their future assets to appease their star this season.

Curry agreeing to an extension likely changed everything, allowing the Warriors not to pay an extremely overboard price for a player like Ben Simmons.

Coming off a season in which he averaged a league- and career-high 32 points per game, Curry, now 33, should still have several seasons left of his prime. Considering how he plays the game, Curry’s efficiency should stay high well into his 30s.

This was a major win for both sides.
