Darren Collison is the backup point guard the Golden State Warriors need
Last season, while Stephen Curry was running through the league en route to a top-three MVP finish, a larger issue was emerging. Even in all of Curry’s greatness, the Golden State Warriors were struggling to win games and this is because any moment Curry was on the bench — the team was lost.
The Dubs not only missed Curry’s prolific shooting but his leadership qualities as a floor general could not be matched by anyone on the bench. This problem has not been addressed yet in the offseason.
Before abruptly retiring, Darren Collison was a true point guard who could always be relied upon for consistent shooting and quality decision-making Collison averaged 11.2 points, 6.0 assists and 1.4 steals in his final NBA season with the Indiana Pacers.
In addition to leading the league in 3-point percentage back in 2018, Collison maintained a solid assist-turnover ratio for most of his career. Because of this, Collison can be the one who commands the second unit and helps Curry run a tight ship moving through the season.
