Golden State Warriors: 3 Keys to James Wiseman’s development
By Tony Pesta
James Wiseman must be able to shoot consistently
It was listed as one of his largest limitations heading into the NBA Draft and it remains a question mark entering year two. Can James Wiseman reach his potential as a floor spacer? Or will he remain confined to shots around the basket?
Wiseman didn’t have much of a 3-point stroke in high school or college, despite some overzealous comparisons to Chris Bosh. He truly looked like a restricted offensive talent for much of his early days but his fluid jump shot mechanics gave everyone enough reason for optimism.
His first NBA season certainly helped to build more hype around Wiseman’s shooting ability. Wiseman connected on 12-of-38 attempts from deep for a reasonable 31.6 percent clip. This is far from making Wiseman a traditional stretch big but it is a good first step.
In today’s league, your value on the court is drastically reduced if you can not be trusted to hit 3-pointers. Continuing to become a threat and increasing his efficiency/volume will be one of the deciding factors in Wiseman’s development.
