Golden State Warriors must-sign point guard: Isaiah Thomas
There are many reasons why the Warriors need a backup point guard. One is to facilitate the offense in the second unit. That’s where a potential Collison or Teague addition could come in handy.
However, there’s another route, and that could be to add a scoring guard like Isaiah Thomas. At his peak, Thomas averaged 28.9 points per game. It’s even more impressive knowing he stands just 5-foot-9.
Thomas has played in just 88 games over the last four years though, and that includes having seen time in just three games last season. After his near-MVP run, Thomas hasn’t been the same, especially since his time in Boston and the playoff injury he fought through.
Thomas is still an option as a score-first guard though, and with Curry playing north of 35 minutes per game when the Warriors are competitive, all they need Thomas to do is help the second unit be capable of scoring for that 10-15 minutes.
He could do that, averaging 11.1 points and shooting over 38 percent from deep the last three seasons. It might not be a perfect coupling, but it makes some sense.
