Golden State Warriors must-sign point guard: Dennis Smith Jr.
The point guard that should be on Golden State’s radar is Dennis Smith Jr. His playmaking and athleticism were able to create enough excitement surrounding his play that Smith Jr. was taken as a top-ten pick in the 2017 NBA Draft.
Since joining the league, he’s spent time with three different teams, most recently playing with the Detroit Pistons. He’s played 37 games combined over the past two seasons and has averaged 6.0 points per game in that stint.
While that’s not overly impressive, Smith Jr. did average over 15 points per game as a rookie, showing his ability to score. His problem so far, one that’s stopped teams was targeting the young free agent, is his ability to score efficiently.
Smith would be more of a last-ditch attempt, but he’s a player that’s filled up the stat sheet before, and he’s just 23 years old. The sky is still the limit for Smith Jr. as he continues to get acclimated to the NBA.
That said, all four are still options, and each has their own merit as to why the Dubs should be targeting them. For now, Collison, who has worked out with Golden State, seems like the most likely option.
