Draymond Green is building his case for the greatest frontcourt playmaker ever
Draymond Green might never get the credit he deserves for being an absolute game-changer for the Golden State Warriors. Even so, it is getting hard to deny the resume he is putting up. He might be the best frontcourt playmaker the NBA has ever seen.
At 5.3 assists per game for his career, Green is atop the list when it comes to power forwards and centers. He ranks 177 for all-time totals with 3,413 career assists. If he continues at this pace for even five more seasons, Green will launch himself into the top 50.
It is easy to dismiss Green’s assists as he has had the luxury of playing next to legendary scorers like Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson and Kevin Durant. However, his career-best 8.9 assists per game came last season with only Curry as his primary option. This marked just the third time ever that a frontcourt player dished 8.9 or more assists a night.
Green is not a flashy passer. He isn’t even an elite ball handler. But, his ability to push the tempo and most importantly, read the defense with microsecond processing speeds allows him to make the right decision more often than not.
Most people think of Draymond’s defense as his calling card but his talent as a playmaker deserves more praise.
