Warriors can snap longest playoff drought since 2012
After so many consecutive years of battling for championships, it is a weird feeling to see the Golden State Warriors staring down their longest playoff drought in 10 years. But, a series of unfortunate events led us down this path.
Things were going to be tough as soon as Klay Thompson tore his ACL in the 2019 NBA Finals. It did not help for Kevin Durant to leave shortly after. A consequential injury to Stephen Curry put the final nail in the coffin for the Dubs that year.
With the franchise in shambles, Curry rattled off one of the most impressive seasons of his career to push the Dubs to the Play-In Tournament last year. Still, growing pains and inconsistencies across the roster led them to just barely missing the postseason for the second year straight.
Now, the Warriors are looking to avoid a third straight year of watching from the couch. Everything is shaping up for this to be an easy return to the playoffs but I think everyone will breathe a sigh of relief when it is finally clinched.
The last time Golden State finished in the lottery more than twice was the 2011-12 season, Curry’s third year. The squad had missed five consecutive playoffs at that point but was on the brink of a very special dynasty.
