Player the Warriors should’ve targeted: Patty Mills

As with Batum, Mills is coming off a terrific summer with his national team. The Australian team looked incredible behind Mills, and he should be bringing that confidence back with him in the league.

Sadly, he’ll be taking it to the Brooklyn Nets. That could be one of the most underrated signings of the offseason as the Nets will be able to substitute Kyrie Irving out with a player that can, to a far lesser extent, make plays.

The Warriors needed the long-time Spurs guard. Mills averaged 10.8 points per game and shot over 37 percent from deep. In a loaded Spurs backcourt led by Dejounte Murray, Mills played under two quarters per game.

Mills would’ve been a great option, especially with the Dubs still needing a backup point guard. He could’ve solved far more problems than the addition of Bjelica. But, at this point in his career, finding a top contending team is far more important.

While Golden State will contend, everyone knows a healthy Nets team is far and away the best and most talented roster. Mills got his ability to contend, but it would’ve been much nicer to see him taking the court consistently in the Bay Area.
