Golden State Warriors major need: A backup point guard

Last offseason, the Golden State Warriors prioritized a point guard.

They added Brad Wanamaker who had just a couple of years with the Celtics under his belt. Despite being older, Wanamaker didn’t end up getting much time with the Warriors, resulting in Jordan Poole or Nico Mannion typically running the second unit.

Wanamaker was eventually traded to the Hornets. Now, the Warriors are in that situation yet again, without a solid backup behind two-time MVP Stephen Curry.

Despite being locked up for the next five years, the Warriors won’t Curry playing more than 34 minutes per game. His longevity is just too valuable. However, they’ve done little to prevent an all-out collapse when he’s not on the court.

Players like Reggie Jackson were on the market, but it appears Golden State will enter the season with score-first guard Poole as the player behind Curry. The team recently worked out Darren Collison, so the understanding of their need is there, just nothing has been yet to correct it.
