Golden State Warriors: Klay Thompson’s return

Klay Thompson’s return from the tunnel to shoot his free throws in Game 6 of the 2019 NBA Finals was one of the most iconic moments in basketball. But, his official first game back from the nightmarish two-year stretch of injuries will be even better.

Truthfully, nothing the Golden State Warriors do next season will matter if Klay is unable to make a successful return to the floor. He is vital to their success on both ends. Without Klay, the Dubs do not compete for a championship.

Looking at other stars who have suffered comparable injuries recently like Kevin Durant and John Wall — Thompson should feel optimistic. Modern medicine has allowed players to suffer significant injuries and bounce back with a little bit of hard work and dedication.

Thompson is confident he will be the same player he once was. This would be pretty good for the Dubs, as Klay is arguably the greatest 3-and-D threat to ever play the game of basketball. His value as a floor spacer and wing defender can not be replaced.

The Warriors are hopeful Klay will make his return around Christmas. This leaves roughly a third of the NBA schedule for Golden State to traverse without the Splash Brother. Factor in enough time for Klay to get his feet back under him and the Dubs will have to play a majority of the year below full strength.

Nevertheless, a late-season surge could have a tremendous impact on the final standings. Plus, no team will want to face Stephen Curry and his old friend in the playoffs.
