Darren Collison can be most helpful for Golden State Warriors

On paper, Darren Collison is exactly what the Golden State Warriors need. That is… if he had not retired unexpectedly.

In his last NBA season, Collison averaged 11.2 points and 6.0 assists per game on above 40 percent shooting from deep. He was an above-average starter and one of the most consistent shooters in the league, leading the NBA in 3-point efficiency in 2018.

Collison filled his role as a primary distributor and capable floor-spacer beautifully. His sound decision-making skills made him as reliable as a point guard can become. Sadly, it is unclear how much of that talent he still has.

Multiple years away from the game is no joke. Considering the Warriors already gave Collison a workout and continued to look elsewhere suggests he might not have been that good during his time with the team.

Perhaps the Dubs are simply keeping their eyes open and monitoring all options. Which would make quite a bit of sense. However, the lack of eagerness to sign Collison after his workout must mean something.

Still, Collison is the prototype for what the Warriors want in their second string. Maybe he just needs some time to knock off the rust and get back into rhythm. For this reason, he is the No. 1 option on our list.
