Many expect the Golden State Warriors to utilize their last roster spot on a playmaking guard, complementing superstar Stephen Curry and the rising Jordan Poole.

The Warriors are reportedly working out guards Isaiah Thomas, Avery Bradley & ex-Warrior Quinn Cook according to Marc Spears of The Undefeated.  They’ve already worked out Darren Collison.

With the news that big man James Wiseman is set to miss the beginning of the season, should the Warriors look at turning their attention to a big man?

With Wiseman still recovering from his meniscus injury, the Warriors frontcourt will be tested at the beginning of the season.

It will require more minutes from Kevon Looney, who’s faced his own injury troubles throughout his career. Nemanja Bjelica will also gain greater opportunity to acclimatize to the Warriors system, providing them with a new look as a stretch five.

Then there are the small ball lineups with Draymond Green or Juan Toscano-Anderson at the five spot. Prioritizing shooting, ball movement, and switching on defense, these may ultimately be the Warriors’ best lineups to go with during critical situations.

The Dubs may be able to handle things whilst Wiseman recovers, but that’ll rely on the sustained health of the four aforementioned players. If the front office doesn’t feel comfortable with such a position, then adding another big man to the roster should be a priority.

Having someone accustomed to the system like Marquese Chriss would be invaluable, however, he’s signed a non-guaranteed deal with the Portland Trail Blazers. Of the remaining free agents, no one really screams off the page.

DeMarcus Cousins is a big name and has had experience with the franchise before, but sadly injuries have cruelled his career. We can be certain that if a 15th player is signed to the roster, it’ll be someone Bob Myers and the front office believe can contribute right away.

If that’s a guard rather than a big man, then expect the Warriors to get creative with two-way or ten-day contracts to help cover Wiseman’s absence.
