Pros/Cons of Golden State Warriors signing a center

Although the Golden State Warriors have a bit more depth in the frontcourt than the backcourt — things could still fall apart fairly quickly.

As stated, James Wiseman is a wildcard. The young center still has to recover from his meniscus tear and then work on overcoming a disastrous rookie season. His development could be a long process, still, and adding more depth to the rotation is important. The Warriors are essentially one Kevon Looney injury away from being decimated in terms of size.

This brings us to Marc Gasol, who is really the only free agent available right now. The former Defensive Player of the Year is well past his glory days but can still provide value as a screen-setter, floor spacer and high-IQ defender.

Cons

Gasol comes with cons, however. He is aging and has lost basically all of his lateral mobility. It will not be difficult for opposing teams to play Gasol off the floor with small-ball lineups.

Furthermore, Gasol might be out of their reach as it could take quite a lot to pry him from finishing his playing days in Spain.

Even so, Gasol is a good pickup for a team who could use some additional depth in the frontcourt. This is an overall sound move for the Warriors if they pull it off.
