Stephen Curry and the Cleveland Cavaliers have grown very familiar over the years. However, now that the dynamic between the Golden State Warriors and their former NBA Finals foe has changed — mutual respect has been born.

According to The Bill Simmons Podcast, Curry has fallen in love with the game of Darius Garland, one of Cleveland’s top young guards. Curry has stated he believes Garland will be a flat-out star one day and has gone s far as to reach out to DG for mentoring purposes.

Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors can’t seem to get enough of Darius Garland, a budding star for the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Curry isn’t the first member of the Warriors to sing high praises for Garland. Earlier in the year, Draymond Green listed DG as one of the most difficult players in the league for him to defend. This is pretty impressive for Garland to earn the respect of both Curry and Green.

Garland will be entering his third NBA season and while his rookie stint was a dud — his encouraging sophomore run has everyone prepping for a breakout performance. In fact, Garland was ranked as the most likely player to breakout next season by a poll of 15 NBA executives. James Wiseman was also on this list, as well.

The similarities between Garland and Curry are evident. Both are shifty, elite ball-handlers with a knack for quick releases behind the 3-point line. Garland’s live-dribbling has been the most impressive aspect of his game while it feels inevitable he blossoms into a premier 3-point shooter one day.

Of course, Garland has a long way to go before becoming a star. Even so, his growth as a playmaker and scorer led to career-best averages of 17.4 points and 6.1 assists last season.

Funny enough, both Garland and Curry will be looking to put their teams back in the NBA Playoffs this season. For Curry, it has been two years since his last NBA Finals run whereas Garland has yet to taste the postseason.

Garland can certainly learn a lot from Curry and it is heartwarming to see the two-time MVP age into a mentorship role with some of the league’s most promising prospects.
