The talent Poole behind Golden State Warriors’ title aspirations
Historically bad rookie season
Poole taking his game to another level next season would certainly alleviate significant pressure from rookies Jonathan Kuminga and Moses Moody, along with secon- year big man James Wiseman, allowing them to develop at their own pace.
Wiseman will hopefully draw some comfort from Poole’s rapid progress. Whilst Wiseman struggled in his debut season, Poole endured a historically rough rookie year.
Immediately forced into playing heavy minutes due to injuries to both Curry and Thompson, his shooting averages hovered amongst the league’s lowest percentile. Like vultures, the critics were quick to label him a draft bust.
The pandemic offered Poole a chance reset. Like the 2020 season itself, Poole’s career was too, very much up in the air.
Poole took the initiative by organizing practice runs with his teammates over the extended summer. He was a constant fixture at the Chase Center working on his game with coaches.
His back was firmly against the wall, and Poole decided that only work ethic and dedication would see him through. Onlookers couldn’t help but notice that the young shooting guard was cut from the same cloth as a few of his veteran championship teammates.
