Golden State Warriors storylines: When will Klay Thompson return?

Klay Thompson hasn’t played basketball since June of 2019.

He missed time in the NBA Finals following a dunk that was contested by Raptors guard Danny Green. Thompson came down awkwardly, and while he tried to stay on the court, playing on a torn ACL isn’t easy, even with all that adrenaline pumping.

In his attempt to get back, as I’m sure most of you are aware, Thompson tore his Achilles. It’s been a brutal last two and a half years for the five-time All-Star guard.

Thompson is in elite company as he’s yet to have a season in which he’s shot under 40 percent from deep. Add in his elite defense, and you get a player that’s the difference between a team making the playoff or being a true Finals contender.

Thompson coming back a full strength is going to help Golden State, but there’s also a good chance he comes in not quite at the level he left at. For now, we’ll have to wait and see as it’s more than likely we may not see the star until 2022.
