Golden State Warriors panic target: CJ McCollum
The Golden State Warriors are either going to have to temper their expectations on who they can get in return or attach players/prospects/picks to any potential deal they offer. In this situation, for a player of CJ McCollum’s caliber, adding Moses Moody should be enough.
McCollum could be that third star the Warriors need. He’s still a relatively undersized two which would force Thompson to the three. However, he is an elite scorer which is what should attract the Warriors to a potential deal.
While he doesn’t have an All-Star appearance, the Lehigh product has averaged over 20 points per game since being dubbed the league’s most improved player back in the 2015-2016 season. He topped 23 points per game for the first time in his career last season.
For the third time in his career, McCollum shot over 40 percent from deep. He also averaged a career-high 47 assists per game, showing his ability to adapt to being more a playmaker than pure scorer.
Since his eruption, McCollum has notched at least 20 points per game in each of his trips to the postseason. He’s been solid, but at 6-foot-3, he could be a liability defensively.
As a third option, McCollum would provide elite scoring, enough to get the Warriors potentially combine Wiggins and Moody in a deal. The Warriors leverage in a trade has diminished given the mandate, so this could be a trade they entertain.
