Golden State Warriors panic target: Jonas Valančiūnas

If James Wiseman doesn’t take a sizable step in the right direction, it could be a rough season for the Golden State Warriors. The second-year center has bulked up, but he must showcase defensive improvement.

Assuming that may be easier said than done, the Warriors may want to target a veteran center. Jonas Valanciunas is the perfect name to keep an eye on. He was traded from Memphis to New Orleans, and if their franchise collapses, he could be a player dealt.

Val hit career-high numbers across the board last season, posting 17.1 points and 12.5 rebounds per game. He also become a competent three-point threat, drilling 37 percent of his attempts from deep.

On top of his aggressive defense and solid free-throw shooting, Val would be filling a large hole for the Warriors. Wiseman could be ready to perform, but getting a proven veteran may be more advantageous.

The Warriors also drafted two small forwards, both of which could use some of the minutes Wiggins would be giving up. He’s not the big-name addition many people are craving, but Val is a quality target for the Dubs.
