Golden State Warriors free agent target: Wesley Matthews

As noted, the Warriors are loaded at the two. I still don’t think adding a shooting guard is in their best interest.

However, if they feel comfortable with keeping Poole behind Curry and as the main playmaker for the second unit, they could look to add a player like Wesley Matthews. Matthews didn’t fit in well in Los Angeles, playing behind Kentavious Caldwell-Pope.

Matthews is a more lethal deep threat than Bradley and has proven to be just as capable defensively.

He played 19.5 minutes per game last season and averaged just 1.1 threes per game, shooting 33.5 percent from deep. While that’s a bit disappointing, he is a 38 percent career three-point shooter.

It’s encouraging that the 34-year-old Matthews was looked at as an asset by a title contender. Bradley, who hasn’t played much the last few seasons, wasn’t picked up by a team making a playoff run.

While that’s not the biggest deal, it does give a little insight into their level of play. The Warriors have worked out many veteran guards, having yet to sign any, and Matthews should be at least one they’ve looked into adding.
