Golden State Warriors free agent target: Marc Gasol

As noted to open, the Warriors are going to have title expectations this season. Entering the playoffs, there’s no denying that having James Wiseman and Kevon Looney doesn’t give premier options at the five.

Wiseman isn’t quite there yet, and a veteran may be more ideal. While Marc Gasol may not play in the NBA this season after heading back to Spain, if he changes his mind, the Warriors should immediately target the former Defensive Player of the Year.

Gasol played last season with the Lakers, but given their loaded frontcourt, he played just 19.1 minutes per game. He averaged just 5 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 2.1 assists.

Along with becoming a competent three-point shooter, Gasol, a three-time All-Star, has increased his playmaking. The 7-footer has clearly aged since his golden days, but the 36-year-old can still play at a high level.

The way his game has developed with his aging has allowed for that. He controls his destiny, and if he re-joins the league, the Warriors should immediately pick up the phone.
