Golden State Warriors: 3 Takeaways from first preseason game
By Tony Pesta
Avery Bradley is still a bit rusty
Taking up the final spot on the roster, Avery Bradley has a strong case for being a rotational player this season. In his first game with the Golden State Warriors, Bradley posted 7 points on just 1-of-6 shooting from deep.
It was a rough opener for Bradley but he showcased some of his on-ball defensive skills, picking pockets and getting an easy bucket in the backcourt to start the game. He finished with 3 steals.
Bradley has built up a reputation as a sturdy defender who can be trusted on both ends of the floor. He’s already garnered the respect of Stephen Curry, who cited him as one of the toughest players to score on during training camp.
To Curry, Bradley was brought to Golden State to command the final roster spot and make an impact. His veteran leadership is valuable but he is capable of doing more than lifting spirits in the locker room — Bradley can still play. It just might take some time for him to get back into the swing of things after playing only 27 games last season.
The Warriors will be relying heavily on Bradley early on to defend the perimeter with Klay Thompson on the sideline. Hopefully, Bradley can find his rhythm and play better next time.
