Judging the Golden State Warriors’ rookies

Steve Kerr made us all wait eagerly for the first minutes from Jonathan Kuminga and Moses Moody. Finally hitting the floor late in the third quarter, the rookies had a chance to get their feet wet against the Portland Trail Blazers.

Kuminga had a quick introduction to the league, giving up an and-one play on his first defensive possession. The lanky forward has a ways to go before living up to his lofty expectations as a hybrid defender but his first preseason game was not too bad.

The No. 7 overall pick did a good job of filling in his role offensively and making the right passes.  His energy on the glass got him an easy dunk and he showed no fear of shooting the 3-pointer, despite missing each attempt.

As for Moody, he too was a bit reserved. He missed his sole shot attempt and dished two assists in an underwhelming seven minutes of playing time.

The rookies did not play too far outside of their comfort zones and only combined for 5 points on 2-of-7 shooting. Nevertheless, it is clear the goal was to ease them into the fray and there is not much criticism to be had at this point.
