Golden State Warriors primed to lead franchise: James Wiseman

The Golden State Warriors drafted 7-foot center James Wiseman with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft.

It feels like most are already writing him off as a bust after just one season. Remembering that Wiseman got in just three collegiate games at Memphis helps shed light on why he may have struggled as a rookie.

Thrust into the starting role, Wiseman ended up shooting over 50 percent from the field. His only real issues came as a rim protector, in which he disappointed, struggling to defend and not foul. He averaged 3.1 fouls per game in limited minutes. He was injury-prone as well.

However, the upsides regarding his play as a low-post scorer and roller in the pick-and-roll give him a high ceiling still. He’s also reportedly bulked up which should be huge for him as he continues to grow more comfortable at the NBA level.

Now 20, Wiseman should start to get a hang of the pace and speed. Wiseman is a cornerstone for the Warriors’ future and should enter as the team’s starting center.
