Will the offseason additions pay off?

The Golden State Warriors were not shy about switching things up this summer. They allowed Kelly Oubre Jr. to walk in free agency and used most of their available cap space to add as many new names as possible.

The goal? Fill this roster with players who understand basketball. A simple attribute that has been missing from the rotation since their last trip to the NBA Finals.

The return of Andre Iguodala would have been enough to raise the team’s overall IQ quite a bit. However, names like Nemanja Bjelica, Avery Bradley and Otto Porter Jr. only served to help even more in this department.

In contrast, the Warriors remained young by selecting two teenagers in the 2021 NBA Draft Lottery to pair with a relatively new face in James Wiseman. Jonathan Kuminga and Moses Moody will play limited minutes early on but do not look past the possibility of injuries thrusting them into the lineup earlier than expected.

Things have looked good to start the preseason but the juggling act is not over. There are a lot of new faces who will be carving out their own roles over the next few weeks. Only time will tell if this is a sustainable rotation — though there is plenty of reason for optimism.
