Why Wood is the perfect Golden State Warriors target: Shooting

As previously noted, Wood can shoot, and playing the five at his size and being able to shoot is not a common gift.

Only a handful of players in the league have the size and playmaking that Wood has. While he’s blossoming late in the typical career, already 26 years old, Wood’s unique skill set, which is perfected by his shot should have the Warriors craving his talent.

Last season, Wood knocked down 1.9 triples per game. It wasn’t just that he shot them, but he was an efficient three-point threat as well, hitting over 37 percent of his attempts from deep. The season before he hit 38.6 percent of his attempts from deep.

If the Warriors could get that type of production from a center, they could play lineups that keep size and shooting, something they don’t have with Kevon Looney and James Wiseman making up their frontcourt duo.

Free-agent addition Nemanja Bjelica helps, but he’s just not the caliber of playmaker that Wood is nor is he as capable of a defender.

That said, getting an ultra-talented, ball-dominant big man like Joel Embiid doesn’t make as much sense as a player like Wood which would slide perfectly into the Warriors culture and style of play.
