The NBA loves an underdog

The MVP award is often narrative-based. Look no further than Russell Westbrook’s 2017 campaign, when he won the award for his triple-double rampage — only to post the same numbers in multiple seasons after without even being considered for the award again.

The reason? Everyone loves an underdog. For Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors, it has been a minute since they were seen as the underdogs. It was the narrative that won Curry his first award in 2015 and it could make him the winner again.

As stated previously, the Warriors have missed the playoffs in back-to-back season. Last year’s collapse in the Play-In Tournament was a humiliation and has everyone in the organization eager to remind the rest of the league what this dynasty is capable of.

Curry has a tall task ahead of him. Putting the Warriors back into title contention would shock the world and do a lot for his MVP bid. The odds are against him once again — but that never stopped him in the past, and it will not stop him now.
