Game Report: Warriors lose first game of the season, fall to Grizzlies in overtime
Golden State Warriors v Memphis Grizzlies: Two Key Stats
1. Curry scoreless for three consecutive fourth quarters
The Warriors had won their last two games without Curry’s scoring contribution in either of the fourth quarters, a testament to their team mentality and role players stepping up.
Curry was dominant in the first three quarters, dropping 36 points including seven three-pointers.
But again he went scoreless in the fourth, along with overtime as well. Plenty of eyebrows were raised by the fact he didn’t re-enter the game until 4:30 left in the fourth, and with the game tied up at 91 apiece.
He went 0-3 in those four and a half minutes, going 0-3 again in the five minutes of overtime.
All of his shots came from behind the arc where he had gone 7-14 in the first three quarters. Although the team came away with the loss, you’d think the Warriors will win on most occasions where Curry scores 35+ points.
2. Green stuffs the stat sheet
It was a defensive style of game, one that suited the former NBA Defensive Player of the Year. It was a classic Green statline; four points, 12 rebounds, seven assists, three steals and five blocks.
Through five games this season he’s shown he still has plenty to offer on both ends of the floor, averaging 8.4 points, 8.2 rebounds, 6.8 assists, 1.6 steals and 1.2 blocks per game. He did have five turnovers against the Grizzlies though, including the eight second violation that he’ll no doubt be ruing the consequences of.
