Golden State Warriors: 3 Lessons from start of the season
By Tony Pesta
Golden State Warriors need reinforcements
The motto we have been hearing all year long is Strength in Numbers is back. This 2.0 version of the previous Strenght in Numbers squad is certainly strong — but it needs to be stronger.
Let’s start with the good. Nemanja Bjelica has already done more than anyone could have asked, serving as a playmaker and spacer in the frontcourt. Damion Lee is filling the 3-and-D role nicely while Juan Toscano-Anderson continues to provide that frenetic energy that earned him a roster spot.
I want to make it clear, the Warriors have a great depth chart. But, they continue to crumble when Stephen Curry takes a seat — evident by their collapse against Memphis a few nights ago. So, where will these reinforcements come from?
Well, they are sitting right on the bench. Klay Thompson, James Wiseman and Jonathan Kuminga are all waiting for their triumphant debuts. With the return of the Splash Brothers, most of the Dubs’ non-Curry issues will sort themselves out.
Then, there are the two youngsters. We should not expect too much from Kuminga but his presence is sure to bring some versatility and cushion to the roster. The same goes for Wiseman, only expectations should be higher for the sophomore lottery pick.
These reinforcements are on the way. And, they have the potential to make an already strong team even stronger.
