Golden State Warriors place 4th in NBA Power Rankings
By Tony Pesta
Every week, ESPN ranks all 30 NBA teams from best to worst. This week, the Golden State Warriors have moved from fifth to fourth in the power ranking after a blowout win against the Oklahoma City Thunder.
The Golden State Warriors have worked themselves into the fourth spot on ESPN’s weekly Power Ranking of the league.
The Dubs began the season with one goal in mind: redemption.
It has been far too long since the Warriors were a feared opponent and last year’s attempt at reclaiming the throne fizzled out in the Play-In tournament despite an MVP caliber performance from Stephen Curry and a strong win-streak to end the regular season.
This time, Golden State wanted to leave no doubt in everyone’s mind. The Dubs are back and they will only get better with the return of Klay Thompson.
For now, they rank fourth in the power rankings with the Brooklyn Nets, Miami Heat and Utah Jazz in front of them. Overall, the Dubs are locked in a six-way tie for the best record in the league at 5-1.
The Warriors’ only loss came against a red-hot Ja Morant who toppled their perfect start to the season in an explosive overtime matchup. Other than that, the Dubs have been thrashing opponents with a Net Rating of plus 7.8.
Golden State ranks first in the NBA for assists, third in 3-pointers made, fifth in 3-point percentage and sixth in rebounding. Each of these factors points towards the Warriors being one of the best teams in the league once again.
Notably, the Dubs have a relatively easy schedule ahead of them in November. Eight of their next 10 games are against non-playoff teams. This gives the Warriors a prime opportunity to pad their win total early in the year.
Soon, James Wiseman will return to the floor. The former No. 3 overall pick underwent knee surgery in April but has been cleared for practice. Wiseman’s debut, along with Thompson’s eventual return, could push the Warriors firmly into a top-three position to close out the season.
