Flaw the Golden State Warriors must mend: Turnovers

The Golden State Warriors haven’t numerous games this season, but they have allowed subpar opponents to get back into games because of their sloppy play.

Jordan Poole and Stephen Curry have both been culprits of the Warriors turnover struggles. They’ve had 15 or more turnovers in all but two games. They also had 20-plus turnovers twice. In the Warriors lone loss to the Ja Morant-led Grizzlies, they committed a season-high 22 turnovers.

The Warriors do rank No. 1 in assists, so they pass the ball and make those pass count towards points more than any other team in the NBA. However, they also rank in the bottom six teams in turnovers per game which is a spot the team must improve.

Right now, prior to the Warriors game with the Pelicans, it was Curry and three-time All-Star Draymond Green who were the main turnover-prone players, combining for 7 per game. However, Poole and Andrew Wiggins teaming up for 4 per game isn’t ideal neither.

Nonetheless, the way the Warriors play typically yields turnovers, and it should be how they continue to play. Many of them aren’t necessary though, and those are the ones this team must clean up, especially against more high-profile opponents.
