3 small flaws the Golden State Warriors must mend to be title favorites
Flaw the Golden State Warriors must mend: Getting to the line
Typically speaking, high-scoring teams get to the free-throw line. That’s certainly not always the case, but two of the league’s highest-scoring teams also rank in the top three in free-throw shooting.
The Warriors are more into shooting from deep, and while that’s fine, if they’re not hitting, they’ll need to be able to get to the line. The Warriors average the 19th-most free throws, also ranking 19th in free throw attempt rate.
With Curry leading their team and being more of a three-point specialist than a back-to-the-basket, the Warriors tend to revolve around his style more. It’s understandable that they don’t rely on free throws, and it’s not always ideal to rely on the whistle.
However, typically it also correlates to a team’s aggression. With elite free-throw shooters like Poole and Curry on the roster, getting easier points and getting to the line may help them stay in games against top opponents.
For now, they’re playing magnificent basketball, and nothing else matters as long as they keep winning. That’s the main point at the end of the day, and that’ll ring true until they start to struggle (hopefully that regression doesn’t happen).
