The Warriors star point guard has struggled shooting the ball so far this season according to his standards, despite the team being tied for first place in the West thus far.

Even with more surrounding talent this year for two-time MVP Stephen Curry, it is evident that he is working too hard to get his own shot due to the defensive attention on him. That could be relieved later this season.

Stephen Curry through seven games is averaging 26.7 points while shooting 42% from the field and 37.4% from 3, all numbers significantly down from last year.

While it is still very early on in the season, it is hard not to think about how much of a positive impact Klay Thompson’s return will have on Stephen Curry.

Golden State fans have been spoiled for years with one of the best backcourt combinations in NBA history, and the buzz around the team is palpable with Thompson’s return coming soon. There is a reason why they are so successful when paired together.

When both guys are on the floor, the opposing defense has to stay too attached to them at all times and even from 30 feet out which opens up the floor for everyone, including the other splash brother.

Jordan Poole, who although looks like a splash brother in-training thus far, is still too young to consistently alleviate some of the pressure off Curry on a night-to-night basis like Thompson has proven he can.

Steve Kerr alluded to the fact that Curry is working too hard to get his shots off after the win in Sacramento. Kerr said the team was acting “too chaotic” on offense and that Curry’s three straight scoreless fourth quarters stemmed from that chaos on offense.

However, one thing can be assured, if Poole can play like he did against Charlotte, the offense will click even more and everything will settle down.

With that all being said, Golden State is still 7-1 and about to add James Wiseman and a sharpshooter who many thought was a snub from the top 75 NBA players list. The league should be fully aware of what this team can do, if they aren’t already.
