Potential buyout target Warriors should eye: Daniel Theis

Daniel Theis is the starting center for the Houston Rockets.

The Rockets are moving into the future with power forward Christian Wood and shooting guard Jalen Green. Green was the No. 2 overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft. Along with several other young prospects, the Rockets should have no business keeping the 29-year-old Theis.

However, that’s not to say that Theis hasn’t played well to begin the season. He’s averaging 9.6 points per game in just over 23 minutes per game. He’s also shooting over 50 percent from the field.

Theis is a versatile defender which should intrigue Golden State. At 6-foot-8, he’s less of a defensive liability than Bjelica, and he can stretch the floor better than James Wiseman and Kevon Looney.

There’s no denying that one of the Warriors weaknesses is in their front court. Wiseman should be able to take the next step up in his second year, but Theis defense could be something they truly need in their front court.

If he’s bought out, the Warriors should be looking to sign the big man. Theis is signed through the 2024-2025 season, making a buyout very unlikely, but the situation other than that does feel right for one.
