Golden State Warriors need to integrate James Wiseman

The Golden State Warriors have managed to be one of the best teams on both ends of the floor due to the phenomenal chemistry they have built. This team is as cohesive as they come. Because of this, the task of integrating James Wiseman will be an important one.

Throughout his rookie season, Wiseman never really found a comfortable role. He was thrust into the starting lineup before eventually being yanked and reserved for the bench. Wiseman looked his best in transition and in the few scenarios where Golden State emphasized pick-and-rolls.

However, finding a way for Wiseman to fit with the current offense will be a challenge. The ball is zipping around with each player making quick, natural decisions. This is not a part of Wiseman’s game just yet as he has never shown to be a playmaker and has limited experience playing the game at this high of a level.

The same can be said for defense. As gifted of an athlete as Wiseman is, there is more to playing elite defense than being a freak-athlete. Wiseman will be asked to use his natural talents to plug up the paint and protect the rim. Yet, he will need to learn the ropes quickly in order to succeed.

With how successful the Warriors have been early on this season and the fact that Wiseman is nurturing a significant knee injury, we can expect the sophomore to be eased into the rotation. He can learn from the effective veteran Kevon Looney and hopefully find his footing at some point.
