Through 12 games, the Golden State Warriors are the only team in the NBA with one loss. They’re the only team in the NBA without two losses as well, and they, after defeating the three-loss Bulls, there is only two other teams in the league without four losses.
The Suns and Wizards, surprisingly, have three. The Warriors, through 12, are 11-1, and it’s been single-handedly because of Curry, who should be considered the early-season MVP. He’s been that good.
The Golden State Warriors are seeing mesmerizing performances from Stephen Curry through12 games. He’s easily the NBA’s early-season MVP.
Curry is averaging a career-high 6.3 rebounds per game. He’s also averaging 28.4 points and 6.4 assists per game. Those would respectively be third and seventh throughout his career.
While there are several players like Ja Morant, Dejounte Murray, Russell Westbrook and others that average over 6 rebounds and 6 assists per game, not even reigning MVP Nikola Jokic is topping 28 points per game along with the 6 and 6 average.
At 5.3, Curry is also averaging the most threes per games, and with Bradley Beal sitting in second place at 4.2, there really isn’t another player in the vicinity of Curry.
However, as we’ve seen over the last few seasons, analysts and those voting on MVP clearly love a team that can win. Curry is doing just that, and he’ll more than likely be the only All-Star on a team that’s currently sitting nicely at the top of the Western Conference.
Curry is averaging numbers he’s never even had before, and his team is by far the best in the league. Combine those two, and through the first part of the season, it’s easily Curry who should be favored for the most coveted individual award.
Battling with former MVP and past teammate Kevin Durant, Curry should currently be dubbed a better candidate. Durant is leading the league in points and shooting over 55 percent from the field. Curry is second in points per game.
The presence of 2018 MVP James Harden on the Nets and the Warriors league-best record are what should set Curry head and shoulders above his former teammate. Curry obviously has to keep it up to be awarded third MVP.
That said, there’s no reason to think he can’t though.
