Stephen Curry has officially become the best 3-point shooter in NBA history
It’s been a terrific season for Golden State Warriors’ two-time MVP Stephen Curry.
Against the Chicago Bulls, a game in which the Dubs used a second-half onslaught to annihilate the top team in the Eastern Conference, Curry passed Ray Allen for the most three-point field goals made in NBA history.
Golden State Warriors’ guard Stephen Curry has officially passed former Celtics and Bucks great Ray Allen and become the best 3-point shooter in NBA history.
Curry poured in 9 threes against the Bulls. It was the superstar’s second game of the season in which he hit at least 9 triples. He’s yet to have ten in a game this season.
That said, it was another dominant performance for the player that should be considered the early-season MVP favorite. Averaging over 28 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists per game, Curry has been on fire this season, aiding the Warriors 11-1 start.
Needing just one on Friday night, Curry passed Allen and has now set the record now with 3,366. This includes both regular-season and postseason threes made. Allen was at 3,358. The Hall of Fame guard played the bulk of his career with the Celtics, Bucks and Supersonics.
Even after playing just five games during the Warriors 15-win season two years ago, Curry managed to get past Allen’s record with relative ease. He should be on pace to set a record that isn’t broke in decades.
There’s no reason why Curry couldn’t eclipse 4,000 threes in his career.
Curry also has the single-season record with 402. Allen never even topped 300 in a season, leading the league in threes three times. It was a different time period in the mid-2000s when Allen played the bulk of his career.
Curry has four of the top five seasons in league history with the most threes.
It’s been a marvel to watch Curry throughout the past decade. As most NBA fans and Warriors fans know alike, Curry has changed the game. He’s ushered in an era that’s laser focused on being able to shoot from deep.
With the Warriors off to an ultra-hot start, Curry should have ample opportunity to continue his success. This season, he’s averaging 5.3 threes per game, having yet to have a game under two made triples.
At 33, Curry may be set for his best season yet, which is saying something as he has two MVPs to his name already.
