The Golden State Warriors are hopeful to be getting Klay Thompson back on the court for the first time since mid-2019.

Thompson’s projected return date, which was announced a few months ago, is Christmas, when the Dubs take on the Phoenix Suns in Arizona. Many thought December 25 seemed ambitious, especially given their electric start to the season.

A recent report claimed that Klay Thompson may be good to practice in full, but head coach Steve Kerr doesn’t know where it came from.

The five-time All-Star guard has had two season-ending injuries in the past two years. The first was his torn ACL which he sustained when trying to dunk on Raptors guard Danny Green in the 2019 NBA Finals.

Thompson then, when rehabbing to get back onto the court, tore his Achilles. It’s been a brutal stretch, and re-injury despite his best rehab could still be possible. For now, all eyes are set on Christmas.

That said, The Athletic reported (subscription required) that Thompson has been cleared to practice in full. Apparently, no one told Steve Kerr that as Mark Haynes noted the head coach didn’t know where that statement came from.

Either Kerr wasn’t informed or the report came out prematurely.

Nonetheless, it’s great to have reports concerning how quickly Thompson is looking to get back on the court. It’s obvious when listening to Thompson talk that he desperately wants to be back out there with his team.

The Warriors will love to have him back as well. They’ve surged out of the gate, losing just two in their first 15. They’ve taken down some of the league’s best teams as well, defeating the Chicago Bulls and Brooklyn Nets.

Already the best team in the NBA, bringing back the second-best shooter in the history of the NBA can only help this team. On top of that, Golden State will soon be returning center James Wiseman as well.
