Game Report: Warriors win sixth in a row with win over Trail Blazers
Two things we learned
1. Warriors and Suns breakaway
Although the Warriors are 17-2, there’s also another team making a big noise around the league. The Phoenix Suns’ 15th straight win has them just a game back from the Dubs in the western conference.
As the two teams go stride for stride, win for win, they’ve now opened up a break as we enter the second month of the season. Although the Suns might be just one game behind them, the Warriors are now five games ahead of the Utah Jazz in third after their surprise loss to the Pelicans.
Is post-Wolves Wiggins for real?
Although Wiggins has turned his game around since his days with Minnesota, this question regards his play in the two weeks since his 35 point performance against the Timberwolves. Curry and Steve Kerr both discussed Wiggins’ aggression in the aftermath of that display, an attitude they’re continuing to see in the games since.
After a slow start to the season, Wiggins’ 25 points against the Blazers take his season average to 19.4 per game on impressive percentages of 50.4% from the floor and 37.4% from three. Although he had good periods in Minnesota, this might be a career-best form for the former number one overall pick, particularly given his contribution to winning basketball. Only time will tell if it’ll continue.
The Warriors travel to Los Angeles to take on the Clippers at Staples Center on Sunday.
