Golden State Warriors can target Derrick Favors

A 12-year veteran residing in Oklahoma City, Derrick Favors can help the Golden State Warriors immediately but the cost might be too high.

Cost: Medium

It will not take much for the Thunder to trade Favors. The 30-year-old big man does not fit their current timeline and he has not been playing at a high enough level to warrant anything major in return. Something as small as a second round pick could be all it takes for the Thunder to agree to a deal.

However, his $9 million dollar price tag makes this difficult for the Dubs to consider. There is no easy way to match salary and someone such as James Wiseman or a combination of other assets would be required to make this work financially.

The involvement of a third team could potentially fix this problem.

Benefit: Low-Medium

If, and that is a big if, the Dubs are able to complete a deal for Favors without including an asset like Wiseman — Favors would be a solid addition.

Golden State knows what to expect from Favors. He is akin to Kevon Looney, standing at 6’9″ but having a bulky frame that allows him to anchor efforts in the paint. Favors is a bit more of a scorer than Looney and can provide some depth to the frontcourt.

Yet, because of salary concerns, the Dubs will most likely look the other way.

Verdict: Probably not worth it
