Stephen Curry needs 16 threes to set the all-time NBA three-point record. He broke the regular-season record earlier in the year, and now he’s aiming to top Ray Allen‘s 2,973 regular season and postseason three-point record.

Curry currently sits at 2,958. Reggie Miller is about 400 behind Curry and Harden sits around 450 behind Curry on the all-time list. That said, Curry has been going off this season, but he’s yet to have 10 threes in a game, recording 9 four times and 8 once.

The Golden State Warriors will take on the Portland Trail Blazers at home tonight, and it could be a chance for Stephen Curry to make history…. twice.

To be fair, he is certainly shooting enough times to get hot and break the record. He’s tossing up a career-high 13.2 three-point attempts per game. That’s, by far, the most attempts per game in the league.

While Curry has been to 5 NBA Finals and has amassed a good number of playoff games, Allen’s career has been far longer than Curry’s, including many keep playoff runs for the former Celtics, Bucks and Supersonics great.

Obviously, the two-time MVP is still playing and has a while to go which is why, when he calls it quits, this record may never be touched.

Curry and his Warriors are taking on the Portland Trail Blazers. Portland is in an interesting situation. Without close games against good opponents, they may blow it up, and with Damian Lillard sidelined, there’s little hope they’ll be able to keep it close.

The Blazers have the league’s worst defensive rating. The Blazers allow the second-most three-point makes per game at 13.9, only behind the Oklahoma City Thunder. Curry is averaging 5 makes per game from deep against OKC.

As for Portland, they also allow opponents to shoot the highest percentage from deep. They’re horrible defensively mainly because they can’t defend the three, and the Warriors will, more than likely, be able to abuse that weakness.

If Curry gets this record on Wednesday, he’ll have also shattered the single-game three-point record which is currently teammate Klay Thompson‘s. Thompson hit 14 in a game, beating out Curry’s 13. Zach LaVine has also made 13 in a game.

That said, it’s possible for Curry to hit 16 but certainly very unlikely. With every knowing what he’s capable of, no one is ruling it out. Curry’s excellence has surprised us before, and while many get used to it, seeing 16 threes would undoubtedly be a huge surprise for fans.

While it may not happen Tuesday, there’s a good chance Curry breaks the record either against his brother and Sixers on Saturday or in Indianapolis on Monday
