Golden State Warriors potential target: Cory Joseph

The most likely addition for Golden State if they want a backup point guard is Cory Joseph. Joseph is on a contract that will pay him under $5 million.

While he does have another year if he accepts his player option, it’s far more reasonable than a player making eight-figures. Joseph is currently playing on the Pistons, a team that’s laced with young players looking for minutes to develop.

The Pistons should be more than willing to part ways with Joseph, but that second-year option makes a buyout unlikely. Joseph, with the Pistons, is averaging 6.5 points per game and shooting 43% from the field.

In 21.5 minutes per game, he’s also notching 3.5 assists with just 1.4 turnovers. That turnover-to-assist ratio is something the Warriors should love seeing. Joseph has the experience and expertise as well, having played within the Spurs system for four years.

Joseph isn’t a star, and he wouldn’t be light years better than Chris Chiozza. But, he would be an upgrade and a good floor general for the second unit, something the Warriors do need when Iguodala is sidelined.
