Game Report: Inefficient Warriors stumble against 76ers
Golden State Warriors vs. Philadelphia 76ers: Two Key Facts
1. Defensive Struggles
Outside of the six minutes on either side of halftime, the Warriors looked nothing like the fourth-best offense in the league. Between 5:08 left in the second and 5:41 left in the third, Golden State scored 40 points in that 11-minute 27-second timeframe.
That means that in the other 36 and a half minutes, just over three quarters of game time, the Dubs scored a grand total of 53 points. Their 40% shooting from the floor was the second-lowest of the season, as was the 25% shooting from three.
Curry finished with just 18 points on 6-20 shooting, with nine of those points coming in the closing minutes of the first half with Thybulle off the floor.
2. Lack of opportunities for Poole and Wiggins in fourth
In the aftermath of the Warriors’ loss, Sam Esfandiari displayed a telling comparison of the third and fourth quarters. During the third period, Poole and Wiggins attempted a combined 12 shots, making seven of them including 5-10 from three-point range.
During the fourth period, with role players struggling and Curry constantly harassed by Thybulle, the Warriors conjured just one shot each for their two best players on the night. It’s something Steve Kerr, the coaching staff, and the players on the floor should have recognized, potentially altering the momentum and result of the game.
The Warriors continue their road trip against Indiana on Monday, followed by a marquee game at Madison Square Garden the following night.
