Madison Square Garden has been dubbed the “Mecca” of basketball. Located in the heart of New York City, the Garden has had some of the most iconic moments in NBA history. Stephen Curry has also had some great moments there.

From Spike Lee yelling courtside, to Jordan and Kobe dropping 50. The Garden seems to be where the stars shine the brightest.

Stephen Curry is on the verge of basketball immortality, as he needs two more three-pointers to pass Ray Allen for the NBA’s all-time three-point record.

Let’s see how Curry has fared at the Garden before this historical night.

A superstar was born

Stephen Curry was a great up-and-coming player long before his historic night at the Garden in 2013. However, this performance was a sort of coming-out party to NBA fans everywhere. A game nationally televised on ESPN, Curry erupted for his then career-high of 54 points.

Curry had the Garden cheering for him as he came down the court in search of another three. He knocked in 11 three-pointers and showed the world his ridiculous shot-making.

This was coming off a back-to-back against Indiana where he knocked in 7 threes on his way to 38 points. Fast forward to 2021, and the Warriors are on that same back-to-back, but this time with NBA history on the line.

Other notable performances

Curry is no stranger to elevating his game when at the Garden.

Including the 54-point game, Curry rained in 37 just last year in this building. In 2014, the following year almost to the exact date of his 54 point performance, Curry put up a triple-double in just three quarters of play.

History at MSG

Madison Square Garden has some of the most memorable moments in NBA history. Dating all the way back to 1970 when the Knicks won the NBA title and that famous video of Willis Reed running out of the tunnel and playing through an injury.

In ’95, Jordan had his “double-nickel” game, just his 5th game back from retirement. He put up a cool 55 at MSG. In that same year, Reggie Miller had the famous 8 points in 9 seconds in the 1995 playoffs.

In the 2010’s we saw Linsanity, Kobe Bryant drop 61, Carmelo scoring 62, and even James Harden more recently dropping 61 in a game in 2019.

It almost is poetic how this entire thing unfolded. Curry has become so great at shooting the ball, fans expected him to break it last week needing 16 threes in one game.

However, it has taken Curry all the way to Madison Square Garden, a place where Curry and his camp wanted him to be drafted back in 2009.

12 years later and Curry has the chance to officially cement himself as the greatest shooter in NBA history with Ray Allen and Reggie Miller in attendance.
