Golden State Warriors can consider John Henson

One name that has not gained much traction in free agency talks is John Henson. The soon-to-be 31-year-old has not played in the NBA since the COVID-19 outbreak and has only had one opportunity to get back on the floor.

Henson was waived by the New York Knicks following a lackluster 10-day contract in April of 2021. There has not been any talk of him returning to the league but the Golden State Warriors could provide a home for the vet.

Henson was effective before being waived

Prior to being traded to Detroit in 2020, Henson was having an effective season in Cleveland. He posted 7.7 points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.7 assists in the week leading up to his departure and served as a quality veteran presence off the bench.

The 6’9″ big man would not give the Dubs a significant upgrade in size but he would serve as another body to fill the frontcourt rotation. He’s a reliable rebounder who showed promise as a shot-blocker during his younger years.

While the best days are clearly behind Henson, he can still operate within a winning system and pass the ball well enough to earn a job with the Dubs. That is — if the last year of being sidelined has helped him overcome previous injury woes.
